The winner of the 2016 Master Fitter Challenge football-mad Craig Hanson says he felt like he’d been voted ‘Footballer of the Year’ when he learned he had won this year’s title. The Huddersfield based Pennine Windows installer swept the board at this year’s event by winning each of the window, door and roof fitting competitions, which meant Craig took the overall title unanimously.

Craig says the £5,000 first prize was very useful, paying for his honeymoon and towards a new car. But more than the cash it was the kudos and pride in winning that drove him on: “I had reached the two previous finals and not won anything so was feeling a bit dejected,” said Craig. “But then I thought ‘I’m not giving up – I just have to try harder’ so I entered this year’s competition – and I won! I’m passionate about what I do – the money was great but I didn’t enter it for the money. It was recognition and pride. Every time I watch the video of the presentation it puts a tear in my eye. This is what it must feel like to win the Footballer of the Year competition.”

Craig’s passion for his profession and the Master Fitter Challenge is greater than ever and he has entered again: “This event has been a real buzz every time I have entered but winning was the ultimate. Everyone that entered were really professional and a great bunch of lads though there wasn’t any time for chitchat,” says Craig. “Any window, door and roof installer that has any pride in their work should enter the Master Fitter Challenge. It really does show that the industry has become professional. If they’re good enough anyone can win!”

Winners share £10,000 in prize money with a £5,000 first prize. The winners will be announced and presented at the FIT Show Gala Dinner which will take place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Birmingham on Wednesday 24th May 2017 following two days of live competition between the six finalists at the FIT Show.
