Brian Smith is Director of Home Improvement & Membership of the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF), the major trade association covering the glazing industry, and a Non-Executive Director of the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC). One of his roles is to keep abreast of consumer issues and legislation that could affect the GGF’s member companies that operate in the Home Improvement sector, and this involves liaison with the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI).

In 2015, Brian was instrumental in setting up The Glazing Arbitration Scheme (TGAS) the independent alternative dispute resolution (ADR) scheme. TGAS is the primary ADR scheme for the Glass & Glazing industry and is operated by Chartered Trading Standards Institute certified ADR body, the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR).

Brian headed up the Project Team which achieved CTSI approval for the GGF’s new Consum¬er Code in February 2016, under the Consumer Codes Approval Scheme.

The company also produces annual private reports for the UK based flat glass manufacturers and regular five year forecasts for the British Coatings Federation.

A trained engineer, Russell worked in the timber supply industry for 25 years, holding positions in sales, distribution, manufacturing, technical development and general management

As technical director at Abbott Joinery he was involved in the development of market-leading new build window and cavity closer systems. During this period he also worked in site installation, contract management and the development of supply chain procedures.

Russell next moved to an Italy-based composite material systems company before returning to the UK where he joined the Glass and Glazing Federation as a technical officer and is now Senior Technical Officer for the GGF. Russell is the currently the Secretary of the GGF Heritage Window Group which focuses on glazing in conservation areas.

The teams serve clients from the manufacturing sectors, who deliver products into the UK construction industry and around the world. His team of experts manage a number of testing and certification solutions including BSI Kitemark for windows, doors, safety glass, insulating glass units, and PVC-U profiles. Grahame worked extensively in the BSI laboratories for 10 years, and for the last 8 years has focused on product certification specialising in safety glass, insulating glass units and access equipment.

David Lilley

Team Leader for Product Certification, BSI

David joined BSI in 2012 and in that time has specialised in the Built Environment and Construction Product sectors. Working alongside system suppliers, manufacturers, and installers David has a thorough understanding of the different stakeholders across the supply chain including the fenestration industry. He provides bespoke solutions for clients and works closely with the technical teams at BSI to assist clients in their certification journey.

Phil Pinnington is the GGF’s Director of Health and Safety and has successfully steered members around many common challenges facing the industry.

Phil has 18 years’ experience in a number of logistics management roles and more recently 12 years’ Health and Safety experience working within the charity, energy and transport sectors. He holds both General and Diploma level NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) qualifications and is a qualified BSI (British Standards Institute) internal auditor.

During his time with the GGF he has successfully re-launched the GGF Health and Safety Committee and the GLASS Charter. The Charter now provides members with a clear pathway to continuous improvement and promotes shared Health and Safety good practice in the industry.
