Gerald Allen

Name: Gerald Allen

Company: Epwin Window Systems

Job title: Marketing Manager

Qualifications/education: I studied Business Studies, and I have a CIM Marketing Diploma.

What does your role entail? I have overall marketing responsibility for the window systems and fabrication businesses within the Epwin Group, which is one of the largest manufacturers in the UK for PVC windows and doors. My role includes managing a team of eight people, including our internal design studio, in order to promote our wide range of products and services to new and existing customers.

What was your first job? I started my first job back in 1991 at a company called Door Panels PLC, which was based in Upton-upon-Severn, where I worked as a sales and marketing administrator.

How has your career progressed since then? I spent 18 years at Door Panels PLC and worked my way up through the ranks to become marketing manager. When I started it was a £3million business but by the time I left, it had grown to a £15million turnover company. After that I joined WHS Halo, which was then acquired by Veka, and then I started my career at Epwin in January 2014.

What do you enjoy most about your role? To be honest, it’s the people that make it so enjoyable. The fenestration industry is a very sociable one, and you will often see employees from rival companies mixing together and socialising at exhibitions such as the FIT Show and at networking events. It really is just a great industry to work in – no two days are the same!

What is your advice to anyone considering a career in fenestration? This is an industry that really does have great opportunities for anyone who is prepared to work hard.

Does your company have any apprenticeship schemes? Yes, absolutely, the Epwin Group is proud to employ apprentices across a whole host of disciplines, from technical, to customer services, all of which offer the potential for a hugely rewarding career path.
